This is how you stream videos on Facebook

On Facebook you can stream live videos, with which you immediately reach a large group of followers. You can stream via Facebook on both your desktop and mobile device. We explain how that works. If you want to stream video on Facebook, this is how you proceed.

To stream videos from your desktop, go to Facebook’s website in your browser. Facebook recommends Google’s Chrome browser, but other browsers also support the streaming function of the social media platform.

When you are logged in to Facebook, you will see the search bar with the question What are you doing? Below that you will see the option live video† When you click on this, you will be presented with two options: you can go live immediately or plan a live video event.

Choose the first option if you want to stream immediately and select at Select a video source how you want to do this. You can use a webcam, but you can also use a streaming app as OBS.

If you want the easiest option, choose the webcam. Select from the menu Camera Control which webcam and microphone you want to use. In the menu Video see what the image will look like.

On the right side of the screen at Add message details enter a title for your streaming session, in addition to a description. In the menu bar on the left side of the screen you will find some extra options. Here you can indicate who can view your live video and whether you want to show the video on your timeline. Have you set everything up? Then click on Go live†

While streaming your video, you’ll find some more ways to connect with your followers. You will also see a large red button to end the broadcast.

After you stop the live stream, you can decide what you want to do with the video. Do you want to shorten and save it? Or do you want to remove the video again? The choice is yours.

From a desktop

Be sure to connect a webcam to stream.

Stream from your phone

Also on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone you can stream through the Facebook app. In the same place as in the browser you will find the option Live† Also now you may want to change some settings. At the top of the screen you can indicate who can view your video, for example all your friends or specific friends.

You will also find three icons on the screen. With the first icon, the magic wand, you can add an effect to your video, while the lightning bolt turns on the flashlight of your mobile device. With the third camera icon you can choose whether you want to use the camera on the front or back of your device.

In the menu bar at the bottom of your screen you can add some tags and comments or a location to your video at the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines).

You can then start streaming and afterwards, just like on your desktop, you have some options to share or adjust videos.
