This is how you switch off the iPhone without a power button (with iOS 11)

If the power button on your iPhone does not work, it is still possible to turn off the phone via the settings. Read how to do that in this article.

Do you ever turn off your iPhone? This can be done by pressing and holding the power button until a ‘Shut down’ option appears. But what if your power button stops working or if nothing happens when you keep it pressed? You can wait for the battery to run out, but there is another solution.

Turn off iPhone with iOS 11

If you have an iPhone or iPad and you run iOS 11, it is a lot easier to turn off your device without using the power button. Apple has included an option in the Settings app that makes it easy to switch off your iOS device. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone (or iPad);
  2. Choose ‘General’;
  3. Swipe all the way down until you see the ‘Shut down’ option. Tap this to turn off your iPhone.

To turn off your iPhone without using the power button, you can use AssistiveTouch. This works as follows:

  1. Open the Settings app on the iPhone;
  2. Tap on ‘General’;
  3. Go to ‘Accessibility’;
  4. Scroll down and select ‘AssistiveTouch’ and set the slider to green;
  5. A button with a circle will now appear on the screen, tap it;
  6. You will now see a new menu, tap ‘Device’;
  7. Press and hold your finger on the ‘Lock screen’ option;
  8. The option to turn off the iPhone completely will now appear and you can turn off the device with the swipe gesture.
