Tip: this is how you use your camera to connect to a WiFi network

Since iOS 11, it is possible to connect directly to a WiFi network using your iPhone camera. You do this by scanning the qr code of your router. We show how this works.

Wifi connection with camera: log in without typing

Of course you can connect to your wireless network by entering a username and password. However, it is much easier to grab your phone and scan the code on the router. Before we start, make sure your iPhone or iPad is running at least on iOS 11. Of course there must also be a qr sticker on your router. Such a sticker looks like this:

This is how you connect to a WiFi network via your Camera app:

  1. Go to the settings menu and select ‘Camera’ halfway through;
  2. Slide the switch at ‘Scan QR Codes’;
  3. Open the Camera app and point your device at the qr code of your router. Usually this is on the bottom or side of the cabinet;
  4. As soon as your iPhone or iPad recognizes the code, you will see a notification at the top of the screen with the name of the Wi-Fi network;
  5. Tap this notification to confirm the connection and you’re done!

The above steps do not work? Then you may have changed the password of your network. That is not a problem at all and even good for you: it makes it more difficult for malicious parties to use your wireless network.

This is how you print a new qr sticker

You can make a new qr sticker yourself quite easily. For example, go to the website QiFi and enter the current name and password of your network here. A new qr code is now automatically generated, which you can easily print yourself and paste on your router.

If your router allows users (temporary) access to your network, you can even make special qr stickers for visitors in this way. You can give this on arrival, for example, so that your guests no longer have to ask for the login codes. Again you can make such a qr sticker using the website above.
