Volkswagen can remove production from Germany due to gas prices

Not without a fight

Volkswagen does not rule out that it will have to reduce production in its home country of Germany because of the high gas prices there.

Volkswagen would look at “moving production capacity” as a possible solution to the high gas prices, Bloomberg reports. The second largest car manufacturer in the world obviously has some possibilities for this, because the German company has factories all over the world.

In the coming months, branches elsewhere could therefore just benefit from the misery currently affecting Europe in the area of (among other things) gas prices. Germany itself is very dependent on the Russian gas that is currently scarce or not available, but that also applies to, for example, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. You guessed it: Volkswagen also has large factories in those countries.

Incidentally, in the case of production relocations, one should not only think of factories outside Europe, but also locations further south and north of our continent. Portugal, Spain and – yes – Belgium, among others, would be in a better position in the energy field than Volkswagen’s home country. Nevertheless, moving production will certainly not be without a struggle, notes Bloomberg. In Germany alone, 295,000 people work for Volkswagen, who will undoubtedly not just let themselves be eaten.
