What to do if your Apple Watch is lost or stolen

Has your Apple Watch been lost or even stolen? That is very disappointing, but hope is not lost yet. Read here what you can do to find or block your watch.

There are several things you can do to make sure you find your Apple Watch if it is lost. Has your Apple Watch been stolen? Even then you can do something to at least protect your data. You mainly do everything with the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad or on the computer.

  • Set “Find My”
  • Lost
  • Stolen

Find Set up my app for your Apple Watch

To make sure you find your Apple Watch when it’s gone, make sure Find My iPhone is enabled on your iPhone. If this is enabled on your iPhone, it is also automatically enabled on your Apple Watch. We have a separate explanation about this built-in function. By default, it’s turned on, so if you’ve never changed it, it’s probably already on.

Lost or lost Apple Watch: You must do this

Can’t find your Apple Watch anywhere, but can’t imagine it being stolen? Then there is a chance that you will find it. Do you have Find Myapp set up correctly? Then proceed with the following steps:

  • Search
  • Mark lost

Find Apple Watch

Before you know whether your Apple Watch is lost, you must first find it. Start at step 1 if you are using a computer. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a Mac. If you use your iPhone or iPad, start at step 2.

  1. Computer only: Go to iCloud.com in a browser and log in there.
  2. Open the Find My app and tap on it at the bottom Devicestab.
  3. Search the list for the relevant Apple Watch and tap / click it.
  4. View the location and possibly play a sound with the special button.

Find My Apple Watch

Please note that this map cannot show the exact location on the centimeter. It is also possible that no location has been found at all. That means your Apple Watch is not connected to the internet. Wi-Fi networks are automatically taken over from your iPhone. If your iPhone has Wi-Fi, your Apple Watch will likely have that in that location too.

When the Apple Watch battery is low, the watch automatically forwards its location if possible. This way you know at least the last location of the watch before it was empty. Still can’t find it? Then read on.

Report Apple Watch as lost

If you mark your Apple Watch as lost, you can set a message to appear on the screen. Think for example of your telephone number or e-mail address. No one can enter your Apple Watch without the passcode. You do this like this:

  1. Computer only: Go to iCloud.com in a browser.
  2. Open the Find My app and tap on it at the bottom Devicestab.
  3. Search the list for the relevant Apple Watch and tap / click it.
  4. Swipe the window up (on iOS) and select on Activate.
  5. Enter a phone number and message and tap / click Activate.

Lost mode Apple Watch

You will receive an email from Apple confirming that Lost Mode has been activated. We also recommend that you change your Apple ID password. If you also want to erase all data on your Apple Watch, read on. Have you found your Apple Watch? Then you can deactivate the lost mode with almost the same steps.

Apple Watch stolen: you must do this

We’re not hoping for it, but of course it can happen: your Apple Watch is stolen or you really lose it. To ensure that a thief or finder is of no use, you can delete your Apple Watch. You do this in the following way. Step 1 is again for computer users. Start at step 2 if you are using your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Computer only: Go to iCloud.com in a browser.
  2. Open the Find My app and tap on it at the bottom Devicestab.
  3. Search the list for the relevant Apple Watch and tap / click it.
  4. Swipe the window up (on iOS) and select Delete this device.

We recommend that you also report this to the local police. If your Apple Watch is stolen abroad, you must inform the police there. They will likely ask for the Apple Watch serial number. To do this, open the Watch app on your iPhone. Then go to General> Info and you find the number.

In any case, we hope your Apple Watch never gets lost or stolen again. You may have lost your iPhone at home. Did you know that you can find your iPhone from an Apple Watch? That works with the well-known ping sound. You can read how to do this in our separate tip.
