You can pay with PayPal in the App Store and iTunes

You can also pay with PayPal in the App Store. In this tip you can read how to link a PayPal account with your Apple ID so that you can now also pay for apps, music and other iTunes content via a normal bank account and (with a detour) via iDEAL. You have set up PayPal as a payment method in the App Store in 5 steps.

PayPal in the App Store

Do you want to make purchases in the App Store and do you not have a credit card? No problem, you can also pay with PayPal in the App Store. It also applies to iTunes and Apple Music, because you can also use PayPal as a payment method for this.

Good to know is that the payment methods in the Apple Store (for physical items) and App Store (for digital downloads) are very different. This way you can pay for digital downloads with PayPal, but not a new iPhone or Mac.

Payment methods in the App Store

In the App Store you can choose from several payment methods:

  • Credit card
  • PayPal
  • iDEAL
  • iTunes credit cards
  • None (for free apps)

If you regularly receive money from your PayPal account, PayPal can be a handy payment method. You can also use your PayPal credit to pay for additional iCloud storage, your Apple Music subscription and iTunes purchases. You can deposit extra credit into your PayPal account via your bank account, so that there is sufficient balance available to make your App Store purchases. But if you regularly trade with people from abroad via eBay, you may already receive enough money into your PayPal account, which does not even require additional payments.

Why use PayPal in the App Store?

Setting up PayPal previously had the advantage that you could deposit money into your PayPal account via a normal bank account and you could also use iDEAL. Since the App Store supports iDEAL payments as a standard payment method, that argument has disappeared. But there are still plenty of people who enjoy paying through PayPal. If you pay with PayPal you will miss out on nice discounts, namely the discount that you can get on iTunes cards. In our Techzle Deals section, we discuss which stores can receive a discount every working day.
