Suzuki Dzire under the knife

In the Netherlands, you can only get the Swift as a five-door hatchback, but in India, for example, you can just knock on the door for a sedan version at the local Suzuki dealer. That car is called Dzire and is now subtly updated.

After the second generation Swift disappeared from the Dutch market, it was no longer possible for the Dutch consumer to put a Swift Sedan at the door. Maruti Suzuki, the Indian division of Suzuki, did produce sedans of the next two generations of Swift, the Swifts Dzire (photos 8 and 9), but refused to put them on the boat to Europe. In 2017, the current and now simply Dzire baptized sedan based on the current Swift was presented and it is that car that has now been put on the cutting table.

The changes that Maruti Suzuki makes are not very serious, but it is still interesting to take a digital tour around the modified Dzire. The renewed sedan can be recognized by its new grille, a hexagonal specimen that now forms a whole with the opening at the bottom of the front bumper. In that bumper we also see a new chrome strip, a specimen that now forms more or less around the fog lamp.

Pre-facelift Dzire

You can search for adjustments on the back for a long time, because there are none. In the interior, Suzuki now pastes new, lighter-colored plastic strips that must pass as wood and in the center console a new infotainment system gets a place. The 4.2-inch display, located between the bells in the instruments, is now a clothes display. Suzuki extends the standard equipment with stability control and Hill Hold Control and for the first time the Dzire is optionally equipped with cruise control. It is striking that the dashboard of the Dzire completely deviates from its well-known hatchback brother, so you will not find round ventilation grilles in the Dzire, for example.

Suzuki puts a 90 hp and 113 Nm strong 1.2 on the engine list, replacing the previous 83 hp 1.2. Where until recently the Indian customer could order a 75 hp 1.3 diesel engine, the diesel option will not return after the facelift. Switching is done by a manual five-speed gearbox or via a robotized manual gearbox.

The Dzire measures just under four meters in length and is therefore about ten centimeters longer than its predecessor. The luggage compartment has a volume of 376 liters. Also this facelifted Dzire is not coming to the Netherlands. In 2019, 15,286 Dzires went over the counter in India. This puts the car in third place in Indian sales statistics. The sedan had to tolerate the Alto (spot 2) and the Baleno (spot one).
