The Chinese Volkswagen Lavida gets a fairly extensive facelift with a new nose. Still a bit important, because this sedan remains extremely popular in China.
The Volkswagen Lavida was presented in its current form in 2018. The car, a product of the SAIC-VW joint venture, is to China what the Gulf was once to Europeans. So very popular. De Lavida was last in the absolute number one position of the sales statistics in 2019, but has since been in the top-3. It just goes to show that the world hasn’t forgotten about the sedan.
The facelift includes a new nose. It’s certainly not radically different, but it’s still going strong. The combination of headlights and grille is similar to what we see on cars like the facelifted T-Roc and the new Taigo. Not so exciting, but recognizable.
On the dashboard we find a considerably larger screen, very modern. The interior seems a bit tight anyway and also gets, for example, the slider operation for the climate control. The steering wheel is also new, we know it from the current Golf, among other things. Of course, Volkswagen’s slightly modified logo can also be seen here. The technical basis of the Lavida is also known, because it is ‘just’ an MQB product. The ‘280 TSI’ version, as the photographed cars are apparently called, are equipped with a 1.4 TSI with 150 hp, linked to a DSG gearbox. A 1.5 with 113 hp is also available.
No Jetta
The Lavida certainly looks like two drops of water after the facelift on the Volkswagen Jetta that is being fed in North America. Bizarrely enough, however, the car is slightly different everywhere, so that, as far as is known, no sheet metal part is interchangeable. The side window, for example, has a slightly different shape, just like the folds in the side. Why? Who knows may say…
