3 tips for Spotify on your smartwatch

Spotify has updated the Wear OS version of the music app. This expands the possibilities of Spotify on your smartwatch even further. We give three tips for the watch version of the streaming service.

Tip 1: Listen offline

With the new update currently rolling out, it is possible to download playlists, albums and podcasts on your watch. This means that you no longer have to take your phone with you if you want to listen to music while running or cycling. You do need a subscription to the streaming service and your smartwatch must run on Wear OS 2.0 or later. In Spotify on your smartphone you can then choose the option Download to watch choose to download music to your watch. If you have an Apple Watch, you can already put numbers on your watch. You do this in the Spotify app on your Apple Watch instead of on your phone.

Downloading songs on an Apple Watch has been possible for some time.

Tip 2: remove songs from your watch

You cannot put an infinite number of numbers on your smart watch: this depends on how much storage space you have available on your smartwatch. Usually you can save several playlists or a hundred songs. So at some point you want to delete the songs you have stored on your watch to make room for other songs. You can do this by opening Spotify on your watch and then choosing Library. Choose Edit downloads and then tap remove with a downloaded playlist or podcast. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to Delete everything every song in the list from your watch. Unfortunately, you cannot delete numbers from all watches. You will then have to remove the song from a playlist on your PC or smartphone.

Tip 3: Using Siri

If you have an Apple Watch with watchOS 6 or higher, you can also use Siri for Spotify. Useful voice commands let you browse your library, view recently played songs, pause songs, and change the volume, among other things. Just like on your iPhone or iPad you say Hey Siri, followed by the voice command and then on Spotify. Think of Hey Siri, play my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. The addition on Spotify is required to prevent music from being played through Apple’s default Music app.
