Samsung canceled the launch event of the new Exynos 2200

Samsung is delaying the launch of its new high-end Exynos 2200 chipset. Samsung deleted previous tweets referring to the launch. We may now get to see the chipset just before the launch of the Galaxy S22 series.

Exynos 2200 Launch

Since last year, Samsung has been making us excited about its upcoming chipset for top smartphones. For the development of the Exynos 2200, the company entered into a partnership with chip maker AMD. The intention is to use the RDNA2 architecture that we also know from video cards for PCs and game consoles. AMD talked about ray tracing and VRS technology in smartphones.

The Exynos 2200 should get a place in Europe in the Galaxy S22 series. So it’s only logical that we want to know more about the chipset, and normally a Samsung launch event was scheduled for Tuesday 11 January. The well-known rumor spreader Ice Universe now says on Twitter that the launch of the Exynos 2200 processor has been postponed. A reddit user also noted that references and banners about the January 11 event have disappeared from Samsung’s social media.

What is the cause?

Ice Universe points to problems in Samsung’s chip department and the release of an Exynos 1200 processor that was already scrapped in November. We expect that the Exynos 2200 will not run very smoothly and that it will soon be in the S22 series, but it is not known when Samsung will present the chipset. The company may be unveiling the Exynos 2200 just before the launch of the Galaxy S22 series which, according to various sources, will take place on February 8.

Meanwhile, there is already plenty of speculation in the press and on social media about the exact cause of the delayed launch. Some expect it to be related to the global chip shortage, and others say the chipset’s performance is still disappointing for Samsung at the moment. Recently, benchmark results have been leaked showing that the Exynos 2200 underperforms compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. But leaked benchmarks are not always reliable. So we take such speculations with a grain of salt.
