It was already clear that Apple eventually wants to switch to OLED for several products, but according to recent rumors, Apple is now working on a 24-inch iMac with an OLED display. This would mean a boost for Apple’s all-in-one computer.
You will have to be patient for a while; this type of model is not expected until late 2027 or early 2028. For those hoping for a larger iMac with this kind of screen, there’s unfortunately disappointment: the 24-inch remains the only size.
24-inch with OLED screen
According to one new report from The Elec Apple is in discussions with screen manufacturers Samsung Display and LG Display about a 24-inch OLED panel for a future iMac. In this early phase, it concerns a Request for Information (RFI), in which Apple requests technical details about how such a panel could be built, before requesting a specific quotation (RFQ).

The exact specifications of the iMac have not yet been determined, but the desired panel would be 24 inches in size, achieve a brightness of 600 nits and have a pixel density of 218 ppi.
That is exactly the same resolution (4480 × 2520) as the current 24-inch iMac with M4 chip, but with a screen that is said to be 20% brighter than the current 500 nits. An OLED screen would also offer typical benefits such as deeper black levels, higher contrast and more intense colors, which is especially attractive for creative professionals who work with photo, video and graphic design.
24-inch model only
These plans only cover a 24-inch iMac. The RGB-OLED technology that Apple prefers is not yet suitable for larger 30- to 32-inch panels, which means that a larger consumer iMac with OLED is not possible for the time being. Rumors about a larger, professional iMac (such as an iMac Pro-like model) therefore point to a different type of screen, possibly with a different panel technology than OLED.

Availability iMac with OLED display
Still, it will be a while before we can expect such an iMac. Since development of the OLED panel is still in its early stages, it is estimated that the panel will not be completed until 2027 or 2028, with the actual release of the iMac to follow. In the meantime, Apple appears to be switching to OLED first for the MacBook Pro, which may launch with an OLED screen around 2026–2027.
