Today is the start of WWDC! During the Apple developer conference we hear a lot about iOS and the other operating systems and we also get to see a number of new products. And don’t worry, because Apple has shown some cool things in previous editions that can easily compete with Android.
It’s no secret that Apple sometimes lags behind Google’s Android when it comes to features for your iPhone. Still, the Cupertino-based company has hit some pretty big home runs when it comes to the software.
WWDC is a springboard for Apple to compete with Android
For some, Apple is a bit behind Google’s Android when it comes to new features. Still, we would like to say that updates for iOS are almost always excellent.
Besides the fact that Apple (of course) does look at the competition, it did release features during WWDC that Google could only dream of with Android. Here’s our top three.
1. Cutting and pasting topics in iOS
One of the most impressive updates in recent times is being able to select a subject in a photo. This feature was presented at WWDC last year and still surprises us and Android users to this day.
In fact, you can very easily cut out a person, pet, or whatever in a photo. So you don’t need any third-party software for this. In addition, your phone or Mac can also do this offline.

2. Hallelujah: The iOS Shortcuts
This is a really brilliant feature that made many iPhone users very happy after the presentation at WWDC. Shortcuts are almost indispensable when it comes to Home Automation in HomeKit. It allows you to be even a bit of a programmer.
The principle behind Shortcuts is therefore easy because it revolves around a if/then-principle. When you do one thing, other actions automatically follow. You can make it as crazy as you want.
Are you a newbie who has zero understanding of programming: no problem. But if you really want to go in depth and pretty much write your own OS (even with third party apps) then you can go all out. Shortcuts is definitely one of the coolest features for iOS and Google with Android can be quite jealous of that.
3. Privacy is everything during WWDC and an example for Android
If there’s one thing that’s important to Apple, it’s privacy. The company is a leader when it comes to sealing up its operating system. With the release of iOS 14, it once again took the lead with privacy labels.

Announced at WWDC, these labels let you see how apps interact with your data before you even install them. This does not only apply to third-party apps, but of course also to Apple’s own apps. This new feature was also launched for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS apps together in one place.
Another great feature of iOS 14 is the privacy bubbles that appear on your iPhone’s screen when an app or service accesses your microphone or camera.
Users soon discovered that a bizarre number of third-party apps secretly used these sensitive sensors. The update presented at WWDC also meant that users could go to the Settings themselves to see which particular app has access to which. This makes it harder for malicious apps to spy on you. Something that would also be a good option for Google’s Android.
All in all, Apple definitely showed off some new features for iOS and macOS at WWDC that are fantastic. We therefore hope that the company will again be able to conjure up some magic today.
