Android 12 is only a few months old and the world has already turned its eyes to the new Android version, Android 13. These are the first rumors about Android 13.
Android 13
Most phones on the planet don’t even run on Android 12 yet, but that doesn’t stop us from talking about Android 13. The first details of Google’s next version of Android are already starting to trickle in, and they give us a few things to look forward to in 2022 anyway. Although Google hasn’t used dessert names for Android versions for a while to the outside world, the company does. for Android 12 and Android 13. The dessert name for Android 12 is Snow Cone and for Android 13 it is Tiramisu. XDA has not found ladyfingers in Tiramisu but other interesting features. These are changes to the notifications, the layout of the lock screen, apps and languages and the way apps use the battery capacity.

For the people who have never had a piece of Tiramisu: Tiramisu is an Italian dessert, which includes mascarpone and lady fingers. Here you have a recipe.

1. Notifications
Google is apparently working on adding Runtime Permission for notifications. This gives users control over whether apps are allowed to send notifications or not. That works just like the Privacy Dashboard in Android 12, where you are notified via a notification about apps that use your camera or microphone.
Many developers will not be happy about this, especially those who like to abuse the notifications in Android. All too often we see a new apps or game sending offers and other spam in notifications that we don’t want. So more control over an app’s permissions, including notifications, is welcome.
2. Lock screen layout
Google is apparently going to add more custom options to the lock screen layout in Android 13. Right now, at least in Android 12 on Google phones, you’ll see a large clock in the center that shrinks when a notification comes in. In Android 13 you can specify whether you only want to see the smaller clock in the top left corner.
3. Set languages per app
In Android 13 you can set which language is displayed per app. For example, you can set Chrome in the German language and then your WhatsApp in English. For people who have multiple languages as their mother tongue, this might be a solution?
4. TARE
The Android Resource Economy is not a popular Netflix series but a feature in Android 13 that has everything to do with the battery usage of apps. TARE will use some sort of algorithm to decide how much power or battery an app can use in the background, depending on its battery status. To this end, TARE introduces “Android Resource Credits,” which are best thought of as a form of currency tied to a phone’s battery level. Google awards these credits to apps based on how low the battery is, and apps can then use these credits as “payments” for the ability to complete tasks. Actually, with this Google sets limits on how many tasks an app can schedule depending on the battery level and the needs of the app.
There is still much unknown about TARE, and hopefully Google will release more details about this soon.
When is Android 13 coming?
If Google sticks to the Android 12 schedule, we can expect the first developer preview in February 2022. The first beta version should then be released in May.
Which of the improvements in Android 13 described above are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
