5 ways your iPhone can save you in an emergency

Let’s face it, we can’t live without our iPhone. We use it to take photos, stream and of course text with friends and family. But did you also know that your smartphone can save your life?

You regularly see messages in which people owe their lives to Apple products such as the Apple Watch and the iPhone. But what exactly? Can the iPhone really save your life?

Your iPhone can save your life

We list five ways in which your iPhone can really save your life. Here they come:

Vehicle detection on your iPhone

Crash detection is, of course, the latest example where Apple can save lives. You must have read that this feature is present on the Apple Watch Series 8, Ultra and the new SE, but it is also a feature of all iPhone 14 models. That’s because it has a better accelerometer and gyroscope.

To enable this feature on your iPhone 14, go to Institutions and then SOS emergency notification. Be careful, because sometimes this function goes off at the wrong times, such as a roller coaster or ski slope. Not the time when first responders have to save your life.

Call 112 without entering the number

Calling 112 sounds very simple, of course, but that is not always the case. It may be that you can barely reach your pocket, for example, or that you have to call very quietly because someone is nearby.

There are several hotkeys to enter. Just like with the previous option, go to SOS emergency notification. There you can choose to press two buttons at the same time, or press the side button five times in a row. This way your emergency contact is automatically called.

Medical ID to save your life

In an emergency, every second matters. If you are unconscious in an accident, you will not be able to communicate with emergency responders. To give them the necessary information, you can enter your medical ID on your iPhone

In this Medical ID, you enter, for example, whether you have ailments and allergies, or whether you take medication. You can even enter your blood group. This way the first responders know exactly what to look out for and that can of course save your life.

Turn on emergency notifications

This option is probably automatically checked on your iPhone, but you would do well to check this. This option allows the government to send you messages in the event of an emergency.

Of course, these could be all sorts of different emergencies. From a major fire that creates noxious air, to a terrorist walking around outside. In short, these are cases where you absolutely want to be warned in advance. You can find them on your iPhone Institutions>notifications there you have to scroll all the way down to check it. It seems like a small thing, but it can certainly save your life.

Driving without distractions

Unfortunately, many accidents still happen. But that is also due to the use of your mobile phone. So don’t be distracted by a WhatsApp message or an email while driving.

Fortunately, you can easily arrange this via your iPhone. Very simple: go to Institutions and then Focus. Is there no driving on the list yet? Then press the plus sign and add it. You can then set exactly who you can call and what the screen should look like. This way you are no longer distracted behind the wheel! Great for yourself and all road users around you.
