7 useful new features in the iOS 13 Reminders app

With the arrival of iOS 13, Apple has also given the Reminders app a refresh. We list for you what is new and how you use the new features.

New features in the Reminders app

The new Reminders app in iOS 13 not only looks better, the app is also easier to use. There are seven new features in the app that will make your life a little easier.

1. Smart Lists

When you open the app, the first thing you’ll notice is the four icons at the top of the screen with ‘Today’, ‘Scheduled’, ‘All’ and ‘Flagged’. These are the so-called Smart Lists, which make it easier for you to find the right task.

2. Taskbar

When you write a new reminder, a small task bar will now appear above your keyboard. Here are four handy buttons:

  1. Date: if you tap the clock you can immediately choose the correct date for this reminder;
  2. Location: If your reminder is related to a location, you can add it here immediately;
  3. Flag: If it concerns an extra important reminder, you can click on it. So it stands out extra;
  4. Photo: This allows you to easily and quickly add a photo to your memory. Think of a photo of opening hours or a scanned document.

3. Add link

In addition to adding a photo via the task bar, you can also add URLs to your reminder.

  1. Tap the reminder and tap the information button (‘i’) on the right;
  2. You can then paste a link at the top of the ‘URL’ field;
  3. When you’re done, tap ‘Done’ at the top right.

At the very bottom you can also choose ‘Add image’, but that is easier via the task bar.

4. Sub-tasks

A very handy addition to the Reminders app is the use of subtasks. If you often make to-do lists, you know that one larger task often consists of several small tasks. Here’s how to add subtasks to a main task:

  1. Create a new memory. This is the main task;
  2. When you click on the reminder, you can tap the information button (‘i’) on the right;
  3. This will take you to ‘Details’. Here you can adjust everything;
  4. Scroll down and tap on ‘Sub-tasks’;
  5. Click on ‘add reminder’ to add a subtask;
  6. When you’ve added enough subtasks, go back to ‘Details’ and click ‘Done’.

5. Groups

It is now also possible to group multiple lists together. For example, you can create a household group with different shopping lists in it. This is how you create a new group:

  1. Click on ‘Edit’ in the top right corner of the start screen;
  2. Click on ‘Add group’ at the bottom left;
  3. Give a name to the new group;
  4. Tap ‘Include’ and choose which existing lists you want to add to the group by pressing the plus sign;
  5. Go back to the new group and press ‘Create’ in the top right corner.

6. Change name and color

If you want to make it even clearer, or just like it, you can also give the frames different colors. You can also change the name of your list here. This is very easy when you are working in a list. Click on the three dots at the top right and choose the first option ‘List view’. Here you can go all out with colors and different images.

7. Reminder when sending a message

A notable new feature of the Reminders app is that it is now integrated with Apple’s Messages app. You can now choose to receive a reminder of a task when you send a message to a specific person.

  1. Click on ‘i’ on the reminder to display details.
  2. Turn on the slider ‘Show when I chat’.
  3. With ‘Choose person’ you choose a contact from your list where you want to receive a reminder when you message him or her.
  4. Tap Done.

These new features make the Reminders app a lot easier to use. Especially the Smart Lists and the task bar will make using the app a lot more pleasant!
