macOS Sonoma: These are our top 5 new features

Although the Apple Vision Pro in particular stole the show during WWDC23, Apple had much more to offer. This is how macOS Sonoma was also discussed. But what are the top five new features for the Mac operating system? We will go through them with you.

True to tradition, during the WWDC23 keynote, we will see the new versions of the operating systems of Apple devices for the first time. The one for the Mac is of course no exception. But what, in our opinion, are the top five new features of macOS Sonoma?

5 new features in macOS Sonoma

We’ll take you through five cool new features. Here they come.

#1 Interactive Widgets

Widgets get a major update in macOS Sonoma. They are now more powerful and even more personal. You can easily put them on your desktop and choose exactly where you want them. For example, when you’re working, they fade seamlessly into the background so they’re not distracting. They then become more transparent.

In addition, the widgets are also interactive, so you can quickly operate certain apps via your desktop. Think of checking off reminders or playing the next song in your playlist.

#2 Create a custom app from a website on your Mac

With Safari and macOS Sonoma, it will soon be possible to turn any website into a kind of app. You can easily add your favorite site (such as One More Thing of course) to your dock, after which you always open it for the latest news.

The great thing about this novelty is that you no longer have to open Safari itself. You can also make adjustments very quickly via this system. For example, think of Instagram or social media. This way you can quickly post something or give a response easily.

#3 Video Conferencing in macOS Sonoma

Video meetings just got easier with macOS Sonoma. This does not only apply to all services, whether it is Zoom, Webex or Microsoft Teams. The Presenter overlay works with all these programs. With the overlay it is possible to stay in the picture when you share your screen with information such as graphs and other images.

It is also possible to add certain effects to your video stream. You can activate this by means of hand movements that you have set yourself. In addition, you can also easily share an app with other users in the meeting.

#4 Better gaming on your Mac

With the arrival of macOS Sonoma, the Mac also gets a special game mode. As a result, the computer’s performance is specially adapted to games.

In addition, it will be even easier for developers to make a Mac version of a game. Previously this would take months, but Apple has reduced that time to a few days with Metal 3. So there seem to be more games coming to the Mac.

#5 More privacy in Safari

If you’re not already using Safari on your Mac, macOS Sonoma’s new privacy features might be a reason for you to make the switch. For example, private mode has been further improved to protect you against trackers and people who have access to your device. For example, the fingerprint protection in private mode protects you even further.

Are you not using a screen in private mode for a while? Then it will be locked automatically. This way, you can leave tabs open when you’re away from your Mac.

macOS Sonoma Safari profiles.

Another useful new feature in Safari are the profiles. You probably use different sites for work than for private use. You can create special profiles for these sessions, keeping everything separate. This makes Safari in macOS Sonoma even more user-friendly.
