The most famous chatbot ChatGPT uses GPT, developed by the company OpenAI. And OpenAI announced that it is making the GPT-4 API publicly available and that several APIs are disappearing.

Chatbots have been extremely popular for some time now and ChatGPT is the best-known ‘smart software that is able to quickly write text based on a question’. There is also a paid version of ChatGPT, namely Plus where more is possible. OpenAi is the company behind GPT and is now announcing that it is making the latest version of the GPT API for GPT-4 publicly available.

Existing and new customers
After just a few months, OpenAI is making the latest version of the GPT API for GPT-4 available to a wider audience. If you purchase access to the GPT API as an OpenAI customer, you can upgrade since July 7th. Existing customers who already had access to the GPT-3 API now also have access to GPT-4 and do not have to take out a new subscription. New customers/developers should also have the new API available by the end of July.

GPT-4 and Chat Completions
GPT-4 is OpenAI’s most advanced AI model and there are many improvements. For example, the AI system can now receive input from images and the bot is now much better at generating code and text in general. The model has also been made more human: on academic tests, the language model now performs on a ‘human level’.
If GPT is mainly used as a textual AI system for conversation, then the Text Completion API is usually used. However, you should now start using Chat Completions API, a new and more extensive version of the API. This API has been available since March and is used for more than 97% of all queries to the GPT system. In any case, it is useful/necessary to change API: at the beginning of 2024, the Text Completions API will be deactivated.
There are still a number of APIs that will disappear in January 2024. OpenAI’s blog post clarifies which APIs will be replaced – as well as which APIs will replace them. OpenAI commits to bear the financial costs for companies that need to integrate a new API into their products.
