This is how you search for larger images via Google

Google is the place to search for information and images. Still, it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you’re looking for, especially with larger photos. How do you get the right result?

It used to be very simple to search for larger images via Google. You could even choose from different formats. You then sorted them by small, medium and large. However, that option has changed over time. How do you get images in the highest resolution?

Search images through Google

Now when you search for an image via Google, it’s a bit more complicated to find larger photos. This is only possible on the desktop version. The mobile version does not have this feature. Be the first to type in the search bar what you are looking for, such as a car, bicycle or cake. Then click on Tools and you get some options for the images.

One of those options is Format and resembles the former option. However, there is a big difference: the formats have been renamed. Instead of small, medium and large, you now choose from large, medium and icon. For the rest it works basically the same.

Please note that larger photos are still shown under “icon”. If you choose “large”, you really only see large images.

If you click on a particular photo in your Google results, you’ll see more information about the image on the right side. If you want to know exactly how big the image is, hold the cursor still on the image. At the bottom right you can see how large the resolution of the image is.

This is how you find the ideal photo

If you want to go to the article that contains the image, you just have to click on the photo on Google. However, if you only want to see the photo in full size, there is a special trick for this.

  1. Right-click on the photo
  2. Select “Copy image address”
  3. Paste the address into the URL bar and press Enter

You will now see the actual size of the image. Do you want to save the image? Then right click and select ‘Save Image As’. Now the photo can be found in your folder of choice. Keep in mind that you cannot just use any photo for your own website, for example, because some images have copyrights.

Other options

In addition to size, there are a number of other options in Google to specify your search. This way you can choose which color you want to see, when the image was taken and what the usage rights are. For example, one image is free to use under the terms of Creative Commons, while another image requires a license.

Another useful option is that you can choose what kind of image you want. You can choose from clip art, line art, and gifs.
