Many people have multiple subscriptions to streaming services to watch films and series. These are becoming increasingly expensive, while you can also watch many films and series for free.

Netflixing is a verb and that already indicates that it is very popular. There are plenty of people who, in addition to this well-known streaming service, have other subscriptions to streaming services, such as Viaplay, Disney+ and Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, these streaming services have recently implemented or announced significant price increases and you can no longer easily share your subscription with friends, family, etc. And sometimes you have to pay for multiple IP addresses or the number of screens on which you view the content of the same streaming service. Do you want fewer subscriptions (or none at all) and still watch films and series? As a solution, there are platforms with free films and series available.

NPO Start
NPO Start is a platform where you can easily find films and series. Here you can watch episodes of popular NPO series such as Oogappels, Santos and international detective series. NPO Start is also known as a platform with a nice collection of documentaries.
The programs are only available for a certain period of time and if you still want to watch them again, an NPO Plus subscription costs € 2.95 per month.

Plex
You may know Plex as the app for watching videos within your own network on another device, or for logging into someone else’s server to stream video files, but this isn’t the only thing Plex offers. Nowadays you can watch films and series for free on the Plex platform, in combination with advertising.

YouTube
A popular but classic platform on this list is YouTube. On YouTube it is possible to watch videos for hours and with the wide range you will never get bored. There are many comedy videos and vlogs on YouTube, but YouTube also has a more serious side. For example, you will find documentaries that have been specially made for the YouTube platform, such as short and long documentaries, murder cases, etc. YouTube is certainly more than a ‘vlogging platform’.

NASA+
A new streaming service on this list is NASA+, a free streaming service from NASA. You can watch many videos about space here, such as documentaries, explainer videos, videos for children and more.

Trial subscriptions
Many streaming services offer a trial subscription, for example. to watch their content for free for a few weeks or sometimes even for a few months for a low fee. This can be useful if you want to watch that one film or series on that streaming service.
