In 2023, one million households will switch energy suppliers. ANWB Energie (6%) and Vandebron (6%) scored highest on the switching balance. 14% of households plan to switch this year.
The National Energy Suppliers Benchmark is a large-scale study into advertising, brand awareness, suppliers, installment amount, NPS and loyalty in the Dutch energy supplier market. The Multiscope study interviewed 6,416 respondents aged 18 and older, representative of the Dutch population. Read the results here.
Vattenfall largest energy supplier
Nearly 1.5 million households purchase electricity and/or gas from Vattenfall. That is 18% of all households in the Netherlands. This makes Vattenfall the largest energy supplier in the Netherlands. Eneco (14%) and Essent (13%) follow in second and third place. Greenchoice supplies energy to 11% of Dutch households and Budget Energy to 8%.
ANWB and Vandebron largest increase
In the past year, one million households switched energy suppliers. One in ten switchers switched from another party to ANWB Energie, while 4% left ANWB Energie. This brings the switching balance to 6%. With an inflow of 11% and an outflow of 5%, Vandebron also has a growth of 6%. Greenchoice is in third place with a balance of 4%. Parties with the largest decrease in the number of customers are Eneco, Essent and energiedirect with -6%, -5% and -5% on the balance sheet respectively.
14% of households want to switch
More than 1.1 million households want to switch energy suppliers in the next twelve months. This amounts to 14% of households. Of all households that want to switch, 68% do not yet know which energy supplier.
