iPhone 15 (Pro) battery lasts longer, lifespan drastically extended

Apple has good news to report for iPhone 15 (Plus) and iPhone 15 Pro (Max) owners. The battery life has been drastically extended. It even doubles, making the battery last longer.

Apple has the news confirmed to 9to5mac in response to new information that can be found in the iOS 17.4 update that will be released soon. iPhone 15 (Pro) can keep a close eye on the battery from this software via a new information screen.

iPhone 15 (Pro) lifespan extended

Apple indicates that the lifespan of the iPhone 15 (Pro) is longer than initially thought. The company says that the battery is designed to maintain 80 percent capacity after 1,000 cycles under ideal conditions, up from 500 cycles previously.

In practice, this doubling ensures that you can charge your iPhone more often and use it for longer before it reaches 80% capacity. It is normal behavior that the capacity decreases as the battery ages. But the good news is that 80% of the charging capacity is retained until about 1000 charging cycles and not 500.

The improvement is possible because Apple has made many updates to battery components and optimized energy management software in recent years.

Apple does indicate that actual battery performance depends on a number of factors, including how the iPhone is used and charged. The use of optimized charging is recommended.

Older iPhone models

Apple has not yet adjusted this for the older iPhone models. This means that under ideal conditions 80 percent capacity is retained after 500 cycles. Apple did inform 9to5mac that it is investigating the battery performance of the iPhone 13 (Pro) and iPhone 14 (Pro). Perhaps the expected lifespan will also be adjusted here.

Check battery health

Starting with iOS 17.4, iPhone 15 (Pro) users can accurately monitor iPhone battery health. Via Settings â–¸ Battery â–¸ battery condition you can view all kinds of information about the battery, including maximum capacity, charging cycles, production date, first use, etc.

If desired, you can further extend the lifespan of the iPhone 15 (Pro) with an optional charging limit. Thanks to the function, the iPhone battery will never charge beyond 80%. If desired, the user can choose to charge the battery to 80%, after which charging will be stopped via the software.

Is charging your iPhone, iPad, AirPods, MacBook or Apple Watch up to 100% really bad for the battery? We tried to answer that question in the featured article below.
