Anyone who owns an AirTag can expect an update in the coming days. Apple has released a new firmware update for the AirTag.
This mainly concerns performance improvements and firmware optimization. The previous update dates back to November 2023 and focused on performance improvements. Previously, the ability to receive notifications on your iPad when you forget the AirTag was added and adjustments were made regarding the anti-stalking feature.

If you have an AirTag, it will be equipped with new software in the coming days. The firmware update is performed automatically and cannot be installed manually. Do you want to speed up the process? Then it is sufficient to be near the AirTag, as soon as it connects to your iPhone or other Apple device, the update will start in the background.
Check AirTag firmware version
- Open the Find My app
- Navigate to ‘Objects’
- Select the AirTag from the list
- Tap the name in the pop-up window
- You will immediately see the serial number and firmware version

The new firmware version of the AirTag is firmware 2.0.73 (2A73), which was 61. The tracker will be automatically updated as soon as a new version is available. This happens in the background when the Tag is connected to your iPhone or iPad. Apple indicates that the update will be rolled out gradually and after a few days everyone should have received the update.
