You can easily format text in a WhatsApp message and provide the words with bold, strikethrough or italic text. You can also create lists, add quotes and use Inline code. This makes messages even clearer for your conversation partner.
The lists in particular will be applicable when you want to pass on lists. These can be numbered lists, but you can also clarify a list with dots and dashes. We explain step by step how you can apply this in the popular chat service WhatsApp.
Add bullet points to WhatsApp
In WhatsApp you can clarify a list in three ways, with a dot, dash or numbered. While typing your message, place the characters below for each item in the list, WhatsApp will then convert this into a neat summary. Below we list the different options.
- To use bubble, put an asterisk or dash and a space before each word or sentence.
- For example: * appletips
- For example: – appletips
- To add a numbered list to your message, put a number, a period, and a space before each line.
- For example: 1. appletips

Quotes and inline code
In addition, it is also possible to add quotes and inline code to a WhatsApp message. To add a quote to your message, put a greater-than sign and a space in front of the text. For example: > appletips.
To add inline code to your message, place a grave accent on both sides of the message. For example: ‘appletips’. On iOS you can type accent grave by pressing and holding the accent aigu.
