Using the Camera application for iPhone, you can directly access the device’s cameras and take photos and videos with all lenses. Not only does it support the standard wide-angle lens, telephoto lens and/or ultra-wide-angle lens, you can also take photos in a different ratio.
You can choose between 4:3, 16:9 and square, so you always have the right proportions based on your own wishes. You have to change the settings every time, unless you lock them using a handy trick.
Adjust photo ratio on iPhone
- Open the Camera app
- Swipe up or tap the arrow below the notch or Dynamic Island
- Tap ‘4:3 button’
- Choose a desired ratio, for example 16:9 or square

Taking photos with a ratio of 16:9 is recommended if you almost always view or exhibit your photos through a TV screen. The 16:9 format will then fill the entire screen and not show black bars.
Fix ratio
If you don’t want to always have to manually adjust the size, you can ensure that the Camera app remembers this. To do this, go to Settings â–¸ Camera â–¸ Save settings â–¸ Turn on ‘Creative controls’.
The camera app will then remember the last selected settings of the controls until you adjust them again, so if you choose 16:9 and do not adjust it again, the camera app will always use this format.
