WhatsApp users can secure and lock conversations with Face ID or Touch ID if desired. This means that a WhatsApp chat can only be opened after authentication. This ensures that your conversations remain hidden from unauthorized persons.
It was already possible to secure WhatsApp as a whole with Face ID or Touch ID, but you can also lock each chat individually. This way, only you have access to the conversation. Moreover, these chats are stored in a different place and are not among your regular conversations.
Lock WhatsApp chat
- Open the WhatsApp app
- Navigate to the conversation you want to protect
- Tap the name of the person or group at the top
- Select ‘Chat lock’
- Enable the ‘Lock this chat with -vFyO’ option

You will then be asked for your identity via Face ID, Touch ID or your iPhone’s passcode. In addition, you are warned that the conversations are only hidden in the WhatsApp application for iPhone and not on other connected devices such as WhatsApp for Mac. Repeat this for all contacts and groups.
Locked chats in WhatsApp
All your locked conversations are stored in a different place than the standard chat overview. To do this, open the WhatsApp app, go to ‘Chats’ and swipe down the list. Then tap Locked Chats and confirm your identity with Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone passcode.
Then the hidden conversations will be opened and you can consult them. Naturally, you will continue to receive notifications of these conversations unless you disable this per conversation.
