Add title or name to passwords for iPhone, iPad and Mac

If desired, you can store all your login details and passwords in the keychain for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You can then sync this with iCloud so that the keychain is updated on all your devices.

Since iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, you can add titles to your passwords. Previously this was the website or app name, now you can add a name yourself. This gives you a much better overview and you can easily request the login details.

Add titles to passwords

  • Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
  • Navigate to ‘Passwords’
  • Go to a desired section
  • Tap ‘Edit’
  • Adjust the title
  • Repeat this for all desired parts

On a Mac you can do this via system settings â–¸ Passwords â–¸ open the item by double-clicking or the i button â–¸ click ‘Edit’ and adjust the title. Repeat this for all desired parts.

By linking titles to passwords you can easily recognize and search for login details. By default, Keychain tries to link a good name to the data, such as the app or website, but that is not always successful. Fortunately, you can now adjust this manually.

iCloud Keychain in brief

You can use iCloud Keychain on an iPhone, iPad and Mac. Using this option, your passwords and account information are securely stored locally and synced with iCloud. Your passwords are updated via the online service immediately when you change or add them.

In addition, iCloud Keychain can also help you generate new, unique and difficult passwords. These can be filled in automatically when logging in to websites and apps. You can use and consult the keychain on your iPhone, iPad and Mac, but the iCloud keychain can also be used on an Apple Watch or Apple TV. You can also use iCloud Keychain under Windows.
