Temporarily block the Apple Watch screen to prevent unwanted touches

It has probably happened to you that you accidentally touched the screen of your Apple Watch while performing a certain task. Think about this while exercising or when you are busy.

If you want to avoid accidentally tapping the screen of your Apple Watch, you can use a clever trick. watchOS has a lock that ensures that unwanted touches on the display are not registered.

Apple Watch lock screen

If you want to temporarily lock the screen of your Apple Watch so that touches are not registered, you can use water lock. This mode was originally intended for when you use the Apple Watch while swimming or in the shower, but it is also ideal for preventing unwanted touches during exercise or the like.

Enable water lock

  • Start a desired app, workout or activity
  • Press the side button on the Apple Watch (open Control Center)
  • Tap the water drop
  • The screen is locked

While using the Water Lock, the Apple Watch screen remains active and you can still view the statistics of your workout on the screen, for example. This is also the case for your watch face or other apps that you launch to activate the lock.

Cancel lock

Have you finished your activity? You can then cancel the Water Lock by pressing and holding the Digital Crown until the screen is active again.
