7 Awesome Features in iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia You Don’t Know About Yet

In addition to major improvements, many small features are also coming to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. We introduce you to a few of them!

7 features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia

September will see the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, which will add big new features as well as handy little ones. Here’s what to look forward to.

1. Automatic temporary subtitles

On Apple TV, you have the option to ask Siri what was said, and it will go back 10 seconds, temporarily turning on subtitles. In tvOS 18, iOS and iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, you no longer need Siri for this. If you go back a bit in the TV app, subtitles will automatically turn on for 10 seconds and then automatically turn off again.

2. Files are retained

The Files app automatically moves files from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to iCloud, to ensure you always have enough local storage space. The annoying thing about this is that you can’t specify whether or not you want a file to remain on your device. That changes thanks to a new little feature in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. A feature called “Keep Downloaded” prevents a file from being moved to iCloud and thus available offline.

3. Collapse Sections in Notes

Even in third-party notes apps, you’ll rarely find the ability to collapse and expand sections. In iOS 18, the Notes app gains this functionality. It’s probably not something you’ll use all that often, but for specific notes that require a bit more organization, it’s a pretty handy tool.

4. RCS support in Messages

RCS makes messaging between iPhones and Androids better than ever. RCS stands for Rich Communication Services and has been in use on Android devices for a long time. RCS also lets you send higher-quality photos and videos, read delivery receipts, and more. RCS support is easily one of the handiest little features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

5. Import passwords to your Mac

The new, dedicated Passwords app is another of the handy little features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. But there’s one particularly handy feature in the Mac version. Only Sequoia makes it easy to import passwords from a CSV file. In just a few minutes, you can export your 1Password-data as a CSV file and import it into Apple’s Passwords app. Apple also automatically recognized duplicate entries. So switching to Apple’s Passwords app is easy!

6. Password Menu Bar Tool

There’s another handy Mac feature for the Passwords app. In macOS Sequoia, you can optionally enable a menu bar icon for Passwords. This lets you access recent passwords, search your entire password database, and create new passwords.

7. More prominent feels-like temperature in the Weather app

Humidity often makes a huge difference in how it feels outside. Depending on the humidity, a temperature of 26 degrees can feel wonderful or very stuffy. That is why the Weather app will soon show the perceived temperature much more prominently. If there is now a big difference between the actual and perceived temperature, you will see both values at the top of the screen. Because the perceived temperature only appears when it really matters, it is also immediately noticeable when it appears.
