MacBook Fast Charging Requirements

Unfortunately, not all MacBook models can fast charge, but anyone who owns a recent MacBook can most likely do so. Below is an overview of all Mac models that support fast charging.

  • MacBook Pro from 2021 or later
  • MacBook Air from 2022 or later

  • 13.6-inch MacBook Air from 2022 or later â–¸ at least 67W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or USB-C charging cable
  • 15.3-inch MacBook Air from 2022 or later â–¸ at least 70W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or USB-C charging cable
  • 14.2-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 or later â–¸ at least 96W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or USB-C charging cable
  • 16.2-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 or later â–¸ at least 140W USB-C power adapter and USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable

Fast Charging via Displays

Not only can you charge your MacBook faster when using a higher-powered adapter, fast charging also works across multiple monitors. This means that when you attach your MacBook to your monitor using the USB-C cable or MagSafe 3 cable, it will charge quickly.

You can also use monitors from other brands, but they must be equipped with a high-output port. For the MacBook Air models, this is at least 85 W and for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, this is 96 W.
