Since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can customize the home screen even more and place apps and widgets anywhere. Also new are the dark app icons in dark mode. From now on, the apps and widgets will change color when you switch modes.
These dark app icons take some getting used to and many users find them disturbing. Fortunately, you can disable them so that the symbols and widget remain the same color in both light and dark mode.
Remove dark app icons
- Unlock your iPhone or iPad
- Enable dark mode
- Place your finger on an app or widget
- Wait a few moments
- Choose ‘Customize home screen’
- Tap ‘Edit’ at the top
- Choose ‘Customize’
- Choose ‘Light’
- Confirm with done
From now on, the symbols will appear light in dark mode. At least, for this background combination. Do you use multiple backgrounds and lock screens? Then you need to adjust them for all these backgrounds using the steps above.
