Siri is Apple’s voice assistant that not only responds to voice commands, but also provides suggestions in all kinds of places. If the voice assistant no longer responds properly to your voice or commands, you can restore Siri.
Even if the suggestions for Apps, Widgets, lock screen, etc. do not function properly, it is smart to reset the assistant so that it works correctly again. We explain how you can restore this on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Restore Siri on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to ‘Siri & Search’
- Turn off the ‘Listen for Hey Siri’ option
- Then turn off the ‘Press side button for Siri’ option
- Choose ‘Turn Siri off’
- Return to Settings and go to ‘General’
- Tap ‘Keyboard’
- Disable the ‘Turn on dictation feature’ option

Do you have iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or newer installed? Then you can turn this off via Settings â–¸ Siri â–¸ Listen to â–¸ choose ‘Off’ and disable the ‘Talk to Siri’ option.
Delete Siri history
After you have disabled the above options, it is important that you clear the Siri history. To do this, go to Settings â–¸ Siri & Search â–¸ Siri & Dictation History â–¸ Select ‘Delete Siri & Dictation History’. Delete the history.
Turn Siri back on
After completing the steps above, you can enable the options again.
- Open Settings â–¸ Siri & Search
- Enable the option ‘Press the side button for Siri’
- Turn on the ‘Listen to Hey Siri’ option, follow the steps
- Go to Settings â–¸ General â–¸ Keyboard â–¸ activate the option ‘Enable dictation’

Do you have iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or newer installed? Then you can turn this off via Settings â–¸ Siri â–¸ Listen to â–¸ enable the ‘Talk to Siri’ and ‘Hey Siri’ options. Follow the steps on the screen.
Reset Siri on a Mac
- Open  ▸ System Settings ▸ Siri & Spotlight
- Click ‘Clear Siri & Dictation History’
- Turn off the ‘Listen for Hey Siri’ option
- Then turn off the ‘Ask Siri’ option
- Go to Keyboard in the sidebar
- Turn off the dictation function

You can then enable the dictation function again, but also Siri via  â–¸ System Settings â–¸ Siri and Spotlight. To do this, enable the ‘Ask Siri’ option and ‘Listen to Hey Siri’, then follow the on-screen steps.
