With a tapback or sticker you can respond immediately without having to type a message. You can easily link a thumbs up, heart, thumbs down, exclamation mark or question mark. Do you find a message hilarious? Then you can connect HAHA. We explain how to post short comments on a Mac.
Send tapbacks (short responses) via Mac
When you place your finger on a speech bubble on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, you can send a short response in the form of a tapback. You can also do this under macOS, in two different ways.
- Open the conversation in the messaging app
- Click on the message and hold the click
- Wait a few moments
- The tapback menu opens
- Choose a desired symbol to link it
- Tap the emoji icon to choose a different emoticon
Do you want to link a sticker via your Mac? Then click with a secondary click (right mouse button) on the message and choose ‘Add sticker’.

You can also consult the short responses with a secondary click (right mouse button). Secondary click on the message you want to link the comment to. In the context menu you can immediately choose an emoji or choose a new one. Choose the ‘Add sticker…’ option to use a sticker.
Do you have a Mac with Touch Bar? Then briefly click on the message to which you want to link a tapback. The tapbacks will immediately appear in the Touch Bar. Tap one to link it directly to the selected message. This works slightly faster than the above methods.
