macOS Sequoia 15.2: Stream just a window or app using AirPlay on Mac

Since macOS Monterey, it’s easier than ever to stream your Mac’s screen to other AirPlay devices including an Apple TV. From macOS Sequoia 15.2, Apple has expanded this and it is possible to stream only a window or app.

This means you can share specific parts of macOS using AirPlay. For example, you can stream just the window of a game to your Apple TV or a presentation in a productive application. This has the advantage that you do not have to share the entire screen.

Stream Mac window or app via AirPlay

macOS will now only steam the window or app using AirPlay to a receiver. This could be another Mac, display or Apple TV. If you open other windows while streaming, macOS will not forward this to the recipient because only the window or app is being streamed.

You can also set this choice as default by checking ‘Set as default’ when choosing the output.

Manage streaming

Click the AirPlay icon in the menu bar to manage or stop streaming. For example, you can choose different material, which means a window or app. Additionally, while selecting a window, you can choose to share just that window or all windows of the chosen app.
