Announce Caller: Have Siri announce phone calls with the caller’s name

Speak always or only when AirPods, headphones or car are connected

When you receive a call on your iPhone, it has been the case for years that you will see who is calling you on the screen. This means that you should always check who is calling you. It is also possible to have Siri announce a telephone call and have the caller’s name spoken.

When you let Siri speak is up to the user. For example, you can choose that the caller’s name is always announced at the start of the call. In addition, you can also set caller announcements to only be announced when AirPods, headphones or a car are connected.

Announce phone calls by Siri

iOS has an option that allows you to announce a caller at the start of a phone call. You can choose to always have Siri speak to the caller through the iPhone’s speakers. In addition, you have the option to only do this when headphones or AirPods are connected.

You can also have a caller announce when your iPhone is connected to your car’s entertainment system and the caller’s name will sound through the speakers in the car.

Set up Announce Caller on iPhone

  • Open Settings on your iPhone
  • Navigate to (Apps) â–¸ ‘Phone’
  • Select ‘Announce caller’
  • Make a desired choice

  • Always: Always announce incoming calls.
  • Headphones and car: Announce incoming calls when headphones or a car are connected to Bluetooth.
  • Headphones only: Announce incoming calls when headphones are connected.
  • Never: Incoming calls are never announced.

When 2nd generation AirPods and some Beats headphones are connected, you can reply without saying “Hey Siri.” Once Siri announces the phone call, you can immediately accept or reject the call. From iOS 18, this can even be done with head gestures by nodding yes or no.

Announce notifications by Siri

Not only can you have Siri announce phone calls, this can also be done for notifications when headphones are connected to your iPhone or CarPlay is enabled. To do this, go to Settings â–¸ Notifications â–¸ enable the ‘Announce notifications’ option.

Have Siri announce notifications on an iPhone

You can then indicate whether you want the notifications to be announced when you have connected headphones and/or CarPlay is enabled. At the bottom you will find a list of apps where you can indicate whether Siri should read out the notifications for this application.

Enable the ‘Reply without confirmation’ option to send messages automatically after you respond to an announced notification.
