The iPhone 13 Pro (Max) or newer and most iPad Pro models have a ProMotion screen. This technology ensures that the screen refresh rate is automatically adjusted up to 120Hz. The big advantage is that scrolling is smoother and animations, games and videos are played much more smoothly.
An Apple ProMotion display can automatically switch the refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. Intelligent technology increases this refresh rate when you enjoy amazing graphics and decreases it when you don’t need all that power, so the battery lasts longer. Don’t want to use a 120Hz screen? Then you can adjust the frame rate.
Adjust frame rate iPad Pro or iPhone Pro
- Open Settings
- Navigate to ‘Accessibility’
- Tap ‘Motion’
- Enable the ‘Limit frame rate’ option
Once the option is enabled, the maximum frame rate of the screen is limited to 60 frames per second. Also in this case, the refresh rate is automatically adjusted between 10Hz and 60Hz. On an iPhone Pro with an always-on screen, this is between 1Hz and 60Hz.
