The workout app is a popular app on Apple Watch and from Watchos 26 the app receives a major update of the layout and navigation. With the help of four new buttons in every corner you can quickly reach functions to adjust your workout, such as work-out views, goals, music and notifications
To motivate yourself, you can choose in the workout app music and podcasts that start automatically when you start your workout. Apple Music compiles a playlist if desired based on the type of workout and your music taste. In addition, Apple also introduces workout buddy, just not in Dutch.
Renewed interface for workout
The workout app for Apple Watch has received a large interface update. In addition to hints of the new Liquid Glass-Design, the Sport app has received a new way of navigating. Instead of showing multiple workouts at the same time, the app focuses on one sports activity at a time, with easy navigation by scrolling or running the digital crown.

Scrolling through workouts
From now on the workout app focuses on one sports activity at a time and you will notice that immediately when you want to start a new workout. From now on you have to scroll through an image -filling list of sports activities. As soon as you stop scrolling, the activity is opened and you can adjust the workout immediately.
Adjust workouts directly
Once you have chosen a workout you can adjust it immediately thanks to the renewed display. In every corner of your screen you will find a shortcut that offer direct access to popular functions:
- Workout display (top left): Choose the desired screens with information you see during exercise
- Go (top right): Choose your desired goals that you want to achieve with this sports activity, for example desired distance, calorie burning, etc.
- Music (bottom left): Manage the automatic playing of media
- Reports (at the bottom right): Reports for Hartslag, distance traveled, intermediate times, goals, etc.

The renewal mainly lies in the display of these parts. Under Watchos 26, Apple has not added new workout screens, goals or reports, but the existing functions have been refined to improve the user experience.
Work-out display unchanged
Under Watchos 26, the display during a workout remained the same as in earlier versions. During exercise you still see three clear screens: one with your real-time statistics such as heart rate and distance, one with which you can manage your workout, and a third to serve music or other audio.

Automatic playing of music and podcasts
The workout app can start music lists, podcasts or audio books automatically as soon as you start exercising. As an Apple Watch user you can manually link music albums, playlists or podcasts to a workout. In addition, if you are a subscriber, Apple Music can also automatically choose a suitable playlist for your workout based on the type of workout and your personal taste in music
- Open the workout application
- Go to a desired workout
- Tap the music symbol in the bottom left
- Switch the ‘Play Media automatically’ option
- Choose a desired option
- Repeat this for every workout

Do you choose ‘Specially chosen for you’? Then the work-out application will automatically choose music based on the workout type and your personal taste in music. Do you not want this? Then select ‘Choose Media’ and add your desired playlists, albums or podcasts yourself.
Workout Buddy
Workout Buddy is a new function in Watchos 26 that uses Apple Intelligence to raise your sports performance to a higher level. You can best compare the function with a virtual AI coach that you motivate in real time during your workout, give feedback and analyze your performance based on your personal training dates and history.
Unfortunately, with the introduction, Workout Buddy is only available in English and only works for a select number of popular workouts. In addition, the function requires an Apple Watch that is connected to an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
