With the Passwords app on your Mac (available from macOS Sequoia) you can easily export all your passwords to a CSV file. This is useful if, for example, you want to switch to a different password manager or make a backup.
The exported CSV file is unencrypted and contains all your passwords in clear text. Therefore, delete this file immediately after use to protect your data. You can only export and import passwords via the Mac version of the Passwords app, not on iPhone or iPad.
Export passwords on a Mac
- Open the Passwords app
- Click on ‘All’
- Select the first password in the list
- Enter the key combination command⌘ + A out
- All parts are selected
- Click on ‘Archive’ in the menu bar
- Choose ‘Export all parts to file’
- Save the parts on your Mac

The exported CSV file is unencrypted and contains all your passwords in clear text. You can then import this CSV file into password managers, for example from 1Password or LastPass. You can also import a file into Apple’s Passwords app.

Want to switch from another password manager to Apple’s Passwords app? Then you can import passwords via a CSV file. Passwords app on your Mac and go to the menu bar ▸ File ▸ Import Passwords from File. Then select the document and let the app do its work. If you use iCloud passwords, the data is synced across all your devices.
