Apple Intelligence has been available in the Netherlands since iOS 26.1 and is automatically activated as soon as you install the software update 26.1 or later. Apple’s AI system offers useful features, but you may not use the AI tools. In addition, Apple Intellingence takes up significant storage space.

Disable Apple Intelligence
To turn off Apple Intelligence and get your storage back on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:
- Open Institutions on your iPhone or iPad
- Go to ‘Apple Intelligence and Siri‘
- Disable the ‘Apple Intellingence’ option
- Confirm to disable Apple Intelligence
- Follow the steps on the screen
On a Mac, you can disable Apple’s Personal AI system via ▸ System Settings ▸ Apple Intelligence and Siri ▸ Disable the ‘Apple Intellingence’ option, confirm and follow the on-screen steps.
Free space does not become immediately available
The free space does not become immediately available. Apple automatically removes downloaded content for Apple Intelligence from your device. Please note that certain features, such as Writing Assistant and the updated Siri animation, will no longer be available after disabling.
Additionally, you can re-enable Apple Intelligence at any time using the steps above. The necessary data will then be downloaded again, if it was already deleted from your device.
Disable specific Apple Intelligence components
Maybe you don’t want to disable the entire system, but just disable some features. This is also possible, although you will not get any storage space back this way. Follow these steps:
- Go to ‘Settings’
- Open ‘Screen Time’
- Tap Restrictions ▸ Intelligence & Siri
- Turn off the desired functions
You can disable the following Apple Intelligence features individually:
- Create images
- Writing aid
- Intelligence extensions
- Siri and the dictation function
