Apple has just announced the new iPad Air with M4 chip. These updates bring performance improvements and new capabilities to both models, ideal for everyday use, creative work and productivity.
The iPad Air retains its popular 11- and 13-inch sizes with a familiar design, but now boasts the powerful M4 chip that delivers smoother multitasking and advanced AI features.
Unchanged design
The iPad Air retains its iconic aluminum casing with flat sides and Touch ID in the power button. Apple offers your choice of 11-inch (2360 x 1640 pixels) and 13-inch (2732 x 2048 pixels) Liquid Retina displays with 500-600 nits of brightness, True Tone and anti-reflective coating.
The iPad Air is perfect for those who like subtle colors. Sadly, those hoping for new shades will be disappointed; The new Air with M4 chip is, like previous generations, available in colors such as space gray, blue, purple and starlight.
Powerful processor
The iPad Air with M4 chip has a 9-core CPU (3 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores), 10-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, 16-core Neural Engine and 8 GB RAM. This delivers up to 120 GB/s memory bandwidth and excellent performance for video editing, AR and ProRes support.
The iPad Air is now equipped with the latest N1 chip, an advanced networking chip from Apple for wireless connectivity. This chip, which made its debut in the iPhone 17 series, replaces the previous Broadcom chips. It offers support for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Thanks to the integrated controller, efficiency and energy savings are improved, especially for functions such as AirDrop and smart devices. Bluetooth 6 ensures less interference and lower power consumption, while WiFi 7 delivers faster and more stable connections, even in busy environments.
Other innovations and adjustments
We would have liked to report more innovations, but Apple has (again) chosen to limit the update to the processor. The iPad contains no adjustments and retains the same 12 MP Selfie camera in landscape orientation for better video calls and 12 MP wide-angle camera (f/1.8) on the back for sharp photos and 4K video.
