Since tvOS 26.4, the TV app on Apple TV has introduced a new feature called Genius Navigation. This smart navigation assistant, called ‘Genius Browse’ in English, puts an end to endless scrolling through menus and immediately offers personalized recommendations for films and series, based on your viewing behavior, mood and preferences.
Whether you’re in the mood for an exciting thriller, a light-hearted comedy or a family movie night, Genius Navigation adapts seamlessly and provides suggestions that are important to you at that moment.
TV app as a central location
The Apple TV app is more than just access to Apple’s streaming service Apple TV+. This app is a central place for all your streaming content, bringing together titles from different services such as Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max. This means you no longer have to switch between different apps; everything is in one clear screen with personal recommendations and a joint search function.
With the new Genius navigation feature, this app gets even better, as it creates smart categories that combine content from different sources based on what you watch. For example, you can see films and series from subscription services in themes such as ‘Exciting psychological thrillers’ or ‘Unlikely true stories’. It’s a modern take on the classic Genius feature from iTunes, but now fully optimized for video content on the big screen.

Genius Navigation appears as a prominent new row in the Apple TV app for tvOS and can be found on the application’s home page.

- Navigate to ‘Home’
- Scroll to the Genius overview
Open a desired category and you will end up in an interface with immediately playable recommendations. These suggestions are tailored to your viewing behavior and are particularly relevant. By choosing a suggestion, you will also receive more recommendations related to the previously chosen option. This way you get more and more tailor-made tips.
Filter within Genius
Once you’ve chosen a category you can filter by genres, show only movies or prioritize series, while sections like ‘For you’, ‘TV shows and movies’ and ‘Genres’ will help you further. When selecting a title you will immediately see related content, trailers and cast information.
Personal recommendations
Genius navigation is fully personalized and takes into account multiple profiles on your Apple TV, so kids get family-friendly options while you watch your dark dramas, for example. Only content from your subscribed services will be shown, provided you have linked it to the TV app. This could include Disney+, ViaPlay, HBO Max, etc. Netflix is ​​absent for the time being and is therefore not included in the recommendations. Thanks to machine learning from Apple, the system learns your tastes and updates suggestions weekly
Siri integration
