Taking CarPlay screenshots is a useful feature to record your navigation route or share a nice overview of your dashboard, for example. With the arrival of iOS 26 you can easily activate this, although it does require a specific setting on your iPhone.
You simply take the screenshot as you would on your iPhone, but note: two images are always saved, one of the CarPlay screen and one of your iPhone. This article explains step by step how to set it up and what to pay attention to so you can take screenshots safely and effectively.
Enable CarPlay screenshots
Before you can take screenshots of the CarPlay screen, it is important that you enable the option using the steps below:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Go to ‘General‘
- Tap ‘Screenshot‘
- Enable the option ‘CarPlay screenshots‘ in

Connect your iPhone to CarPlay and make sure the screen is active (preferably the car is stationary). Now press on your iPhone at the same time the volume up button and the side button (on iPhones without a home button) or side button and home button (on older models).

You’ll hear a sound and both screenshots will appear in the Photos app under ‘Recently Saved’ or ‘Screenshots’. The CarPlay image shows exactly what is on the dashboard or display, ideal for sharing your widgets, routes or apps such as Flitsmeister.
