It is common knowledge that Apple is currently working on their first foldable iPhone, which will most likely be presented this fall. The iPhone Ultra, believed to be the name of this model, could be the world’s first foldable smartphone with a durable, wrinkle-free screen. This means that the fold line will not be visible once the device is opened.
This marks Apple’s entry into the world of foldable smartphones, with a strong emphasis on premium quality. The iPhone Ultra would open like a book, making it about the size of an iPad mini when fully unfolded. When folded, the iPhone will take on a more square shape than current models.
Foldable iPhone without fold line
Apple is not the first manufacturer to introduce a foldable smartphone; brands such as Samsung, Honor, Motorola and Google have already done this. A problem with current foldables is the visible fold line in the screen. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg states that Apple will solve this problem with a virtually wrinkle-free display.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo makes a bold prediction: he expects a completely wrinkle-free screen without fold lines once the device is fully unfolded. This results in a seamless 8-inch display, free from distractions caused by creases or variations in light.
Durable screen without cracks
Until now, foldable screens often suffered from wear and tear on the fold line, resulting in cracks, as seen with the first Samsung Galaxy Fold. Fortunately, this problem has been significantly improved in recent years for these models, but Apple is working on a special, extremely durable display that completely solves this problem, even when opened and closed intensively.
This should ensure a longer lifespan, without the usual vulnerabilities of foldable devices. The technology is designed for robustness without sacrificing image quality.
iPhone Ultra in short
The iPhone Ultra will be equipped with an 8-inch screen on the inside and a 5.5-inch display on the outside. The device may have a titanium and stainless steel casing, and has many similarities with the iPhone Air. This includes a camera platform with two lenses (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens), plus a selfie camera on both the outside and inside. Instead of Face ID, the iPhone Ultra will use Touch ID. With the powerful A20 Pro chip, the Ultra delivers excellent performance.
According to recent information, the iPhone Fold will be unveiled in September 2026, but won’t be available to order until the end of the year, with an expected price of around $2,400 in the United States. This would be the most expensive iPhone yet, especially in Europe, where the price is expected to be around 2,800 euros due to taxes and duties.
