According to recent rumors, the Photos app for iPhone and iPad will soon receive significant improvements through Apple Intelligence. With the arrival of AI, we can expect three new functions from iOS 27 that automatically intervene in the areas of canvas, quality and perspective. This all happens locally on your device, ensuring your privacy.
These new features make photo editing more accessible than ever, without having to fiddle with sliders or use different apps. You can easily expand the canvas of a photo, adjust the perspective afterwards and automatically optimize the colors and brightness. Here are the details listed for you.
Apple Intelligence Tools
Apple’s artificial intelligence has now been integrated into the Photos app. Features such as creating retrospectives and removing parts from a photo with the Clean Up tool are examples of this. With the upcoming software update 27, we can probably expect new features within Apple Intelligence.
These editing options are brought together in a new menu called ‘Apple Intelligence Tools’. Here you will find not only the Cleanup functions, but also three new editing options: Expand, Enhance and Reframe.

Instead of making various adjustments manually, you will soon be able to have your photo edited and enhanced with a single tap. These tools analyze your photo and apply enhancements based on context, without having to send data to the cloud.
Enhance: Adjust colors and lighting
Enhance optimizes the exposure, contrast, sharpness and colors of your photo in one step. Apple Intelligence detects issues such as lighting that is too dark or washed out tones and automatically corrects them for a more professional result. It preserves the natural look so your images look better without looking unnatural.

The power of this tool lies in its simplicity, improving the image with just the touch of a button. You can compare it with the magic wand tool that is already integrated into the Photos app, but more advanced and more focused on lighting and colors.
Enhance photos with AI
The Extend function automatically fills in the edges of an image with generated images based on the existing scene. This option is already available in many AI apps and will likely be added to Photos for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
After enabling the tool, you can use your finger or mouse pointer to stretch the edges of the image to lengthen the photo. Photos creates realistic environments, which is ideal for close-ups that require more context or when the image is a little too small for social media. The result looks natural and retains the style of the original.
Adjusting perspective in spatial photos
With the iPhone you can take spatial photos, a feature that probably not many users use, because it is mainly intended for the Apple Vision Pro. Yet it offers possibilities for the future, since iOS 26 you can add a spatial effect to photos.
The AI tool Reframe allows you to adjust the perspective of photos. This tool changes the point of view and composition, giving you a different way of looking at the same scene. This is especially useful for photos with a lot of depth. Changing the perspective can help draw attention to a subject in the foreground or provide more context.

Availability of new AI tools in Photos
Apple will unveil iOS 27 and other software updates on June 8, 2026 during WWDC, with release in September. The expectation is that the new AI Tools will be available on all devices that support Apple Intelligence, including the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) or newer and all Macs with Apple Silicon.
