We have nothing to complain about when it comes to streaming television series or movies. Netflix is no longer the only streaming service and nowadays we can also enjoy Disney +, Apple TV +, Amazon Prime Video and Videoland. NBC Universal has also launched a new service called Peacock. What can we expect from this?
NBC Universal takes a different approach: with Peacock you can watch 13,000 hours of movies and series for free. This makes the streaming service currently the only streaming service that offers completely free content. There is a (small) catch: you will see advertisements. You will see about five minutes worth of advertisements for every hour of viewing. That seems to be not so bad, especially when you compare it to a night watching TV on one of the commercial channels.
The free service will therefore appeal to many consumers with a tight budget, because for a service like Netflix you quickly pay 11 to 14 euros per month, which can be a nice amount on an annual basis.
Paid subscriptions
Incidentally, Peacock also offers paid subscriptions. This way you get 20,000 hours of extra content, including Peacock Originals, for around 5 euros per month. This more expensive plan also has advertisements. If you are not waiting for advertisements, you have to pay an additional 5 euros extra. So even the most expensive Peacock subscription is even cheaper than a Netflix subscription.
With Peacock, however, you do not (yet) have the option to watch films and series in 4K or Dolby Atmos. Unlike Netflix, you cannot download content on your mobile device yet. It is expected that NBC Universal will offer this later with an update.

What kind of content can you expect? With the free version of the streaming service, you can enjoy classic NBC shows, including Parks and Recreation (from the creators of The Office), 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. You will also find various films from Dreamworks and Universal. Peacock Originals are series or films that have been made exclusively for the streaming service, including the comedy series Intelligence with Friends actor David Schwimmer and a film based on the series Psych.
Peacock is now available in the United States, but not yet in the Netherlands. NBC Universal did say it intends to roll out the streaming service internationally, but when exactly this will happen is as yet unknown. We will keep an eye on developments for you.
