Snapchat users can place 3D objects in their snaps with the new World Lenses. iPhoned shows how these new 3D filters work.
Snapchat World Lenses: That’s How They Work
Snapchat announces the World Lenses in a blog post. As the name suggests, these lenses are not for your face, but for the world around you. The nice thing about this is that it allows you to place objects in your photos, which are actually animated in 3D. You do not use the front camera of your iPhone for this, but the lens on the back of your device.
For example, place a rainbow above someone and you can see how he gets bigger and smaller as you walk towards it. This is useful if you are making a video, in which you can now place virtual objects.
Here’s how to use Snapchat’s new world lenses:
- Open Snapchat and use the rear camera;
- Tap the surface where you want to place the object;
- Swipe from left to right through the filters;
- Move your iPhone to see the object move.
To do this, it is important that you have the most recent version of the iOS app installed. You need at least version 10.6.2.0 to use the feature. The new World Lenses work the same as the existing lenses and are therefore regularly renewed. You can now place a rainbow, but also a hand, balloons and other objects.
