It is quite time consuming to find and delete all duplicate contacts on your iPhone. Fortunately, there is a handy app available that does the work for you.
This is how you delete duplicate contacts
As you may recall, in the past you had to manually keep track of all phone numbers in the default Contacts app. Fortunately, this has changed with the introduction of iCloud, as Apple’s cloud service automatically syncs contacts across all your iOS devices.
Yet it can happen that you have (many) duplicate contacts in your iPhone. This may be because you have linked Gmail, Outlook or another service to your contact list. Very annoying, especially when you have a large list of telephone numbers. Fortunately, there are some apps that help you keep an overview and Cleaner is a good example of this.
By following the four steps below, you will delete all duplicate contacts from your iOS device within minutes.
- Download Cleaner from the App Store and create an account;
- Allow the app to import your contacts;
- Cleaner now automatically searches for possible duplicate contacts. Press ‘Duplicate contacts’ to view them;
- Check carefully whether they are actually duplicate contacts. After this, tap on the ‘Merge’ tab and again on the ‘Merge’ option to merge them. To exclude a contact from the merge, you can first tap on ‘Duplicate contacts’ and tap on these contacts.
Pay for deduplication
It is important to note that Cleaner and many other similar apps are not completely free. With Cleaner you can merge ten duplicate contacts for free, but after that you pay 11.49 euros per year. Also the app Smart Cleaner for example works with such a paywall.
So consider carefully whether and how much money you want to spend on it. If you have a huge contact list with a lot of duplicates on a regular basis, such an app will undoubtedly save you a lot of time and effort. If you only want to remove a few dozen duplicate contacts, it is cheaper to do it manually.
