If you forgot your Apple ID password or someone else changed it, you can get your account back with the security questions. You can manually reset these questions and answers.
Anyone who creates an Apple ID secures his or her account with security questions in addition to a password. Only you know the answer to these questions, if it is right. This makes it more difficult for someone else to take over your account. For example, the name of the street in which you grew up, or the name of your childhood best friend. Your Apple ID is the same account you use to download apps from the App Store.
Important: if you have set up two-step verification for your Apple ID, you don’t necessarily need to use the security questions.
Change security questions for your Apple ID
- Go to the Apple ID page on the Apple website and log in with your Apple ID and password;
- In the Security category, click on ‘Change’ behind ‘Security questions’;
- Enter the answers to your current security questions;
- Choose three new questions and answer them. Click on ‘Edit questions’ to save the new security questions.

Can’t remember the answers to your old security questions and want to change them? Then you can use the steps below to reset them.
Change forgotten Apple ID security questions
- Go to this Apple ID page and enter your Apple ID;
- Press ‘Continue’ and choose the option to reset your security questions. Then click on ‘Continue’ again;
- After that, you need to enter your Apple ID password and follow the steps to verify your identity;
- You can then choose and save new security questions. Make sure you remember the answers well (for example write them down somewhere) and finally select ‘Continue’;
- The security questions for your Apple ID have now been adjusted and can be used again.
You may not see an option to change your security questions. This happens, for example, if you have just changed your Apple ID password. To prevent someone else from stealing your account, this option is temporarily unavailable. If you still want to change your security questions, you can contact Apple Support.
