The maker calls this Popcorn app ‘Tinder for Movies’. Users swipe through a collection of posters to discover new movies.
Discovering Movies with Popcorn
You’ve probably wondered what to watch for a movie tonight. The offer is huge, but making a choice or discovering new films can be difficult. Popcorn therefore tries to serve you films that you have not yet seen. Then you can categorize them in a playful way.
The app makes no bones about it. After installation and start-up you will immediately see a movie. There is a title, there are genres, the actors are mentioned and there is a score that is calculated with the help of several websites. You then have four options: add to your watch list, mark as seen, delete if you do not want to see it and postpone the choice.
Saving and sorting movies
To do this, you can swipe the relevant poster in four directions or tap the colored buttons at the bottom of the screen. The films are then sorted under ‘seen’ and ‘added’, where you can request them in list form. An icon is added to this so that you immediately recognize the genre, supplemented with the rating of film sites. The titles you don’t want to see disappear and cannot be retrieved.
The app itself is not very generous with information about the films, but you can tap on all titles to go to the IMDb page. Safari will open for that. You will also encounter advertisements while swiping, although they are easy to swipe away.

The Tinder-esque way to search for movies you haven’t seen yet is fun. A total of 2000 ‘hand-selected’ titles can be found in the app from the past twenty years. That means that you will probably come across movies that you have not seen yet and that you are interested in. On the other hand, the app is not complete and after a while you have to swipe through the titles. All in all, Popcorn is a simple movie discovery app that also drags you through moments of boredom.
