Staring at an arrow continuously while navigating with Google Maps, gets bored at some point. Fortunately, today Google is adding the option to turn this 2D arrow into a full 3D model of a car.

If you hit the road by car, chances are that Google Maps will send you in the right direction. Google’s map service has been one of the most popular iOS apps for years, and while today’s update doesn’t add any new features, the app does look a lot nicer.
With the push of a button you change the arrow that shows which way you are driving in a brightly colored car. You can choose from a red sports car, green van or yellow family car. Before you follow the steps below, check if you have the most recent version of the Google Maps apps installed. From version 4.50 the option is available to everyone.
This is how you turn the Google Maps arrow into a car:
- Open Google Maps on your iPhone;
- Plan a route, choose the car and tap Start;
- Tap the arrow to open a menu;
- Select the vehicle icon to change the arrow.
