From the iPhone 8, the iPhone officially supports fast charging. But how can you quickly charge an iPhone? In this tip, we’ll list everything you need to know about fast charging iPhones.
Four questions and answers about iPhone fast charging in a row
Fast charging your iPhone has been one of the most requested improvements for Apple’s smartphone for years. Although Apple supports the technology, you cannot top up the battery of an iPhone at high speed straight out of the box. We list four frequently asked questions and misunderstandings.

Which iPhones support fast charging?
Apple has supported fast charging since the iPhones of 2017. All future Apple smartphones are also expected to be able to count on this feature. In practice, this means that the following iPhones support fast charging:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
Why does fast charging not work out of the box?
Although the iPhones above support fast charging in theory, they don’t do this with the charger that comes in the box. This is because Apple still bundles iPhones with a small charger, with too low a capacity to allow for high-speed charging. So you will have to get some extra accessories yourself to take advantage of this function. Hopefully future models will have a correct charger in the package, but until then you will have to get started yourself.

What should I buy to charge my iPhone faster?
You need two things to enable fast iPhone charging: a new charging cable and a power strip that can handle a higher wattage than the one in the iPhone box. As far as cable is concerned, we can be short: Apple currently sells the only cable that is Made For iPhone. The Apple USB-C to Lightning cable. This costs 25 euros and is available via Apple’s website to order.
Then you need a power strip with a wattage of at least 18 watts. Higher is also fine, so you can use a MacBook charger from Apple, for example. It is available as 29W, 61W and 87W of capacity, which you can get for 59, 79 and 89 euros respectively. If you find this too expensive, you can also look for a USB-C connector from another manufacturer with a capacity of 18 Watt or higher that supports charging via USB.
Can I also quickly charge an older iPhone?
Do you have an iPhone older than the iPhone 8, or do you not want to spend at least 80 euros on new chargers? Then there is another alternative that increases the charging speed: using an iPad charger to power your iPhone. The difference is less than the above fast-charging technique, but it ensures that you can use an empty iPhone again faster.
